Equipment

  • 1 Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar pantry item
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp Western Family Ground Paprika
  • 1 tsp Western Family Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Western Family Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 rack (3lbs) Alberta Pork Side Ribs
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup Western Family Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup Western Family Ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Western Family Honey

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, salt, paprika, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  • Pat the Alberta Pork Side Ribs dry. Arrange them meat side down and remove the thin transparent membrane on the back of the bones. Rub the spice mixture evenly on both sides of the ribs and rub in well.
  • Into the slow cooker, pour the water and vinegar. Roll the Alberta Pork Side Ribs into a big coil and place in the slow cooker, meat side facing out. Cover and cook for 3.5 hours on High or 7 hours on Low.
  • When the Alberta Pork Side Ribs are finished cooking, carefully remove the rack of Alberta Pork Side Ribs to a foil-lined sheet tray. Pour the liquid from the slow cooker into a small pot. Using a spoon, remove the layer of fat that floats to the top. Whisk in the ketchup and honey. Cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, until reduced by half.
  • To finish in the oven, place on baking sheet for 5 minutes on broil. Baste the sauce over the ribs. Broil for an additional 5 minutes. Cut the ribs into 4 to 6 slabs and serve with the remaining sauce.
